Skills vs. Processes

When you focus on learning skills instead of learning processes life becomes so much easier.

For example:

3 days ago I had a call with someone who wanted me to build a sales funnel.

Someone had given them a process to follow…

They thought if they build a sales funnel and set up ads, they’ll instantly get sales.

Someone had sold them on that dream.

I agreed to build the sales funnel and they paid on the call.

I told them it would take one or two weeks.

But then I did it in two days.

They were super happy with the result and told someone else about me.

And the next step they wanted to take was to set up and run their ads.

The only thing is…

Whoever sold them on the dream didn’t explain all the steps of the process.

And the person I made the sales funnel for didn’t learn the skills.

So when they told me their plan for ads, I shared some important information with them.

The information I shared caused them to ask additional questions to their media buyer…

They asked more questions to the person who had sold them the dream…

And then they came back to me and thanked me because it turned out they didn’t have the full picture of what it was going to take to make it all work.

They were going to have to spend 3x more money than they had budgeted…

And they were stuck in the middle of the process.

That’s what happens when you follow a process…

Some of the steps change because things constantly change in the world…

And then you don’t know what to do.

So this person ended up coming back to me and offering me a percentage of their company for me to join as a partner and continue to advise them.

The value of my work increased in just a few hours from $5,000 to over $500,000.

They did that because I had learned the skills, not just the processes.

And that’s why I prefer teaching skills.

So many people get stuck considering their options and weighing the benefits.

But learning skills will always provide you a greater return than learning processes.

The skills were what made the biggest difference.

And I keep cashing in those dividends.

You can read a book about “how I” from any author.

But the skills you learn and master…

They give you the power to know what to do in a variety of changing environments.

Processes change frequently.

Skills you keep with you for life.
